50 MLAs to inspect potholes on 1,260 km of Delhi roads

Each legislator will cover 50 km along with PWD engineers

In a novel initiative, about 50 AAP MLAs will travel separately with PWD engineers to identify potholes on the 1,260 km city roads on Saturday and will get it fixed after the identification.

“If any pothole is found, then through an app, the photo will be send to the control room. By October 5 evening we will have the whole list of potholes,” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, while addressing a press conference.

“Delhi is a State which attracts foreign tourists round the year. The deteriorating condition of the roads tarnish the image of the city. That is why the Government of Delhi has decided that it will repair the 1,260 km PWD roads after obtaining the data on the potholes. The roads will be repaired immediately,” he said.

Each MLA will cover 50 km of roads along with an engineer. “The move will improve the functioning of the Delhi government in three areas: repairing of bad roads, repairing of potholes and taking cognisance of the fact that some construction work of a particular department is going on. If the work of a department is in progress, we will wait till the work is completed. Other roads will be repaired immediately,” said the CM.

He added that the work will be done on a war footing.

Traffic fines

When asked whether the Delhi government is planning to reduce the increased traffic fines, Mr. Kejriwal said that the fines has increased traffic discipline but the government is still exploring the idea.

“I am meeting people of different sections and if any particular section is facing problem, then we will look into it,” he said.
