Diamond jubilee celebrations of NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad, get under way

The diamond jubilee celebrations of NSS College of Engineering began at Akathethara near here on Friday. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technological University Vice Chancellor Rajasree M.S. inaugurated the year-long celebrations.

Dr. Rajasree called upon engineering colleges to strive to attain deemed university status at a time when technical education was facing many challenges in the country.

V.K. Sreekandan, MP, inaugurated the college’s social initiative named Unarvu, a programme meant to bring back the socially backward students who dropped out of the campus for different reasons. Akathethara grama panchayat president D. Sadasivan inaugurated another project named Haritham. Former Principals of the college were felicitated at the function.

NSS education secretary Prasanna Kumar presided over the function.

Various events

A science exhibition, a technical festival, international seminars and several schemes with social relevance will be rolled out as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the college.

The college was started in 1960 with mechanical, civil and electrical branches.
