‘Crack down on encroachments, parking on Nookampalayam Main Road’

This road provides connectivity to Medavakkam High Road, Sithalapakkam, Semmencherry and Arasankazhani. Residents complain that roadside eateries and other makeshift stalls are eating into the space and affecting movement of vehicles. “A number of eateries have cropped up on this stretch and there is a crowd around them through the day. Those who eat from these stalls park their vehicles on the road, hindering traffic,” says S. Nallathambi, a resident.

‘Relocate lamp posts

The residents have also appealed to the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (Tangedco) to relocate the lamp posts, as they are placed on the walkers path. “We have represented the issue to the authorities concerned during the gram sabha meetings year after year, but no action has been taken till date,” says N.K. Raja, a resident.

“As such, there are no pavements on this road. The lamp posts are a hindrance and they should be moved to a better spot where it does not disturb pedestrians. The local body should take steps to clear the waste from the road, as it could endanger the safety of pedestrians during rainy days,” says R. Ravi, another resident.

Kancheepuram Collector P. Ponniah promised to inspect the road and take relevant action.
