Community Rescue Volunteers’ initiative under ‘Accident-free hour’ drive

The Community Rescue Volunteers (CRV), in association with the police, Motor Vehicles Department and the Fire and Rescue Services, conducted an awareness drive at Ramanattukara on Wednesday.

Feroke Station House Officer M. Sujith said the volunteers, mostly autorickshaw drivers, interacted with many drivers who flouted traffic rules and pointed out to them their violations during the drive, which was conducted as part of a pre-monsoon safety campaign . “It was fully planned and executed by the CRV under the ‘Accident-free hour’ campaign,” he said. The volunteers also distributed leaflets to raise awareness of road manners.

Driver Saheer Perumukham, who heads the CRV, coordinated the drive. Sub Inspectors M.C. Hareesh and C.K. Aravindan, and Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspector Ravi Varma Eradi were among those who lent a hand to the initiative.

Mr. Saheer said they organised the safety campaign with the support of 15 drivers. “Our group has been part of a number of rescue operations in Kozhikode district. The campaign on safe drive too was part of our continuing social interventions to reduce accident deaths,” he said.
