ED summons Aishwarya Rai in Panama Papers case

ED- Enforcement Directorate has summoned Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for questioning in a case linked to the 2016 ‘Panama Papers’ global tax leaks case. Aishwarya  Rai was one of several prominent personalities named in  Panama Papers expose. The summons from the ED is the first indication that agencies are actively pursuing the case against the Bachchans.

The Panama Papers case is a sprawling investigation spanning millions of documents stolen and leaked to the media in the year  2016. The Panama Papers case involves allegations that the world’s rich and powerful set up offshore accounts or shell companies to avoid  the taxes.

The leaked documents were originally obtained by German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung. At least 12,000 of these fresh documents are linked to the  Indians. There have been  business man and the celebrities on the list.

It is known that the name of actress’ father in law Amitabh Bachchan had cropped in the Panama Papers case which is also being probed by the Income Tax Department.

On the work front, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen in ‘Fanney Khan’  which was released in 2018. She will be next seen in Mani Ratnam’s ambitious historical fiction drama ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ where she is playing the double role.
