Ensuring basic facilities to tribals in Khammam

Collector reviews development work in tribal areas

Collector R.V. Karnan asked the officials concerned to expeditiously process the proposals pertaining to the provision of basic amenities to tribals inhabiting the gram panchayats having forest interface in compliance with the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.

Mr. Karnan reviewed the status of development work in tribal areas, forest clearance proposals, pending claims under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) and forest conservation initiatives among other relevant subjects at the District Level Committee (DLC) meeting held here on Thursday, according to a press release.

Proposals relating to BT road work in Penuballi, Singareni, Konijerla and Raghunadhapalem mandals, the requisitions submitted by the MPDOs seeking diversion of forest land for burial grounds in Singareni mandal and pending pipeline work under Mission Bhagiratha drinking water scheme in Madhira mandal came up for discussion at the meeting.

The meeting discussed in detail the proposals submitted by the MPDOs for use of forest land for creating basic facilities such as graveyards and waste disposal sites in forest fringe habitations under various gram panchayats in the former Khammam district. The Collector asked the district forest officials to ensure speedy forest clearances for various development work recommended by the Gram Sabhas to meet the development aspirations of tribals.

The Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Bhadrachalam, Project Officer, V.P. Gautham, Joint Collector Anuraag Jayanti, Assistant Collector (Training) Adarsh Surabhi, District Forest Officer Praveena and others were present.
