Kovind to inaugurate birth centenary fete of Jayachamaraja Wadiyar on Oct. 10

He will lay the foundation stone of JSS University next day

President Ram Nath Kovind will visit Mysuru on October 10 and 11 to participate in the birth centenary celebrations of the late Jayachamaraja Wadiyar and to lay the foundation stone of JSS University.

Immediately on his arrival, he will visit the palace and inaugurate the centenary celebrations. The next day, he will visit Srikanteshwara temple at Nanjangud and Chamundeshwari temple at Chamundi Hills in the morning. Later, he will participate in the ground breaking ceremony and lay the foundation stone for the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research at Varuna.

Meanwhile, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar of the erstwhile royal family said that the centenary celebrations of Jayachamaraja Wadiyar will be organised as a two-day event, on October 10 and 13.

The President will inaugurate the celebrations at the palace on October 10 at 7.30 p.m. The event will have two components: releasing of the book “Srividya Sankeerthana Sudhalahari’’ containing 94 Carnatic music compositions of the late maharaja and officially published by the HH Sri Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Foundation.

Ms. Pramodadevi recalled that in 1975 her husband, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, wanted to publish the compositions of his late father. One of the prominent disciples of composer Mysore Vasudevacharya was Chennakeshavaiah who collated 94 compositions and submitted the script to the palace. But it could not be published all these years and is now set to see the light of the day.

The President will also unveil the name plaque of Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Centre for Higher Learning during the celebrations. The maharaja was inspired by his visit to the Institute of Logopedics at Wichita, Kansas, U.S. in 1952 and donated 22 acres of land owned by him at the foot of Chamundi Hills to the State government to establish an institute of speech and hearing but it did not materialise and instead the AIISH was established by the government. Now the same land has been handed over to the University of Mysore and it has proposed to name its new campus as Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Centre for Higher Learning.
