MLCs urge Botcha to improve civic schools

The team said there was a need to increase the number of municipal schools in cities in proportion to the growing population

A team of Members of Legislative Council (MLCs) from the Progressive Democratic Front (PDF) and leaders of teachers’ unions met Minister for Municipal Administration and Town Planning Botcha Satyanarayana at the Secretariat, and urged him to take immediate steps to solve the problems of municipal schools and teachers.

The team comprised MLCs V. Balasubrahmanyam, R. Suryarao, K.S. Lakshmana Rao, I. Venkateswara Rao and Y. Srinivasulu Reddy and United Teachers’ Federation’s State president and general secretary Sk. Sabji and P. Babureddy respectively.

They said there was a need to increase the number of municipal schools in cities in proportion to the growing population and also increase the strength of teachers corresponding to the increased number of students.

The team members sought immediate measures for implementation of provident fund scheme, promotions and replacement of the teaching staff from Narayana institutions appointed in municipal colleges in the past with staff from the Education Department.

The team members also met Finance Secretary S.S. Rawat seeking implementation of the 27% interim relief announced for the municipal employees and teachers, for pensioners also.

The latter said that the related file was on the Chief Minister’s table for approval.
