NMR services cancelled till Nov. 2

Heavy rain in the Nilgiris led to minor landslips and boulders tumbling onto roads in a few places in the district.

According to fire and rescue service personnel, boulders tumbled off a cliff-face and onto Kattery-Selas Road on Wednesday. Fortunately, there was no traffic along the road. The boulders were removed from the road.

A landslip occurred on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) line between Wellington and Aravankadu. A train plying along the route was caught up in the landslip and suffered minor damage.

Train services were cancelled for the rest of the day. Railway officials confirmed that all NMR services would remain cancelled till November 2.

In Khandal, three houses were damaged due to rain in Kappini Gowder Line, with the roofs collapsing. In the incident, an 81-year-old woman is said to have been injured and was taken to the government hospital in Udhagamandalam.
