Rs. 10 crore for the differently abled

Welfare projects to be implemented by the Social Justice Department

The government has given administrative sanction for Rs. 10 crore as the first tranche for welfare projects being implemented by the Social Justice Department through the Kerala State Handicapped Persons Welfare Corporation.

Minister for Social Justice K.K. Shylaja said Rs. 2.18 crore had been sanctioned for aids and appliances, artificial limbs, and electronic wheelchair.

An amount of Rs. 2 crore had been sanctioned for Shubhayatra under which scooters are given to those with locomotor disability. This will allow the corporation to give scooters to at least 300 more people this year.

Lottery agency

The Minister said Rs. 50 lakh had been set aside to give subsidy to the differently abled who took loans from banks and started enterprises, and Rs. 24 lakh for the differently abled who started a lottery agency.

The State’s component of Rs. 60 lakh of a National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation loan scheme has also been sanctioned. Now, self-employment loans, vehicle loans, and education loans worth Rs. 12 crore can be given.

An amount of Rs. 1.5 crore has been sanctioned under the Hastadanam scheme under which a permanent deposit of Rs. 20,000 is made for children with severe disability.

The Minister said Rs. 15 lakh had been sanctioned for giving professional awards to differently abled students who did well in the SSLC and Plus Two examinations, and Rs. 12 lakh for an elderly care home at Kottamam.
