SSC results: two end life over poor marks

Two students committed suicide in separate incidents on Saturday after they failed in one of their SSC examination papers.

In the first case, a 16-year-old student ended his life in his Govandi home. According to the police, Abdul Ansari was found dead by his sister, who alerted her parents. Ansari was rushed to Rajawadi hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Senior inspector Pagare, Shivaji Nagar police station, spoke to the mother who said, “Abdul was depressed and extremely discouraged after his results came out earlier in the day. He was sensitive and the results affected him more than it did to most children in our locality.”

“The parents have not filed a complaint because the post-mortem report said it was a case of suicide,” Mr. Pagare said. There was no suicide note. The body was handed over to the family for last rights, which took place on Sunday.

The second incident was reported at Zari Mari in Saki Naka. According to the police, Kajal Shah used to stay with her parents and brother. “Kajal checked her results online and found that she had failed in English. At the same time, her neighbour called her mother over to discuss something. When her mother returned, she found Kajal dead in the mezzanine of their house,” an officer with the Saki Naka police said.

No suicide note was found in the house or on Kajal’s person. “No indications of foul play have been found so far. We have registered an accidental death report,” the officer said.
