Stalker arrested for killing teenager

Committed crime after mask came off during rape attempt

A 20-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his teenaged neighbour after failing to rape her, the police said on Monday.

An undergraduate student of an open university, the accused had been stalking her for long. He had even proposed to her but the victim had turned it down, they said.

No one at home

On May 17, he entered the girl’s house in Ballabhgarh to rape her as he knew that she was alone. However, he stabbed her with a knife after his mask came off and she identified him, the police said.

The 18-year-old girl had cleared her senior secondary school examination this year and was preparing for medical entrance.

The murder came to fore when the victim’s younger brother returned from school and found her lying in a pool of blood. Their parents, both schoolteachers, were at work when the incident took place.

Three teams were constituted to work the case. While one of the teams quizzed the victim’s school friends, teachers and coaching class staff, the other questioned the bad characters in the area.

The third team made inquiries from the locals, autorickshaw drivers and shopkeepers about the man seen in the CCTV camera footage. The accused was finally identified by some of the neighbours.

He was arrested from Rewari on Sunday night, the police added.
