Washing up of severed limb: autopsy report awaited

The Mulavukad police are awaiting a detailed autopsy report to launch a probe into the incident in which a severed limb had washed up along the beach near LNG berth on Friday evening.

The limb is being preserved at the General Hospital mortuary following inquest.

“The post-mortem will be conducted on Wednesday. We will have to wait for the autopsy report to gauge details to kick-start any meaningful probe. Only then will we be able to ascertain whether the limb belongs to a male or female and the age of the victim. We may also have go for a DNA analysis,” said S. Muhammad Khan, Station House Officer, Mulavukad.

Such information is also vital for the police to verify whether the limb matches the profile of any missing case. “The report will give us a fair idea about how long the limb had been out there, enabling us to scale down the period for verification for cases accordingly. We will also be able to alert other police stations with a specific time period. For now, no missing case has been reported within our limits,” said Mr. Khan.

The Mulavukad police have registered a case for unnatural death invoking Section 174 of the CrPC.
