World Cinema project: KSFDC to build database

Project on basis of viewer response

The Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) is preparing a database of people interested in watching world cinema.

The aim is to make the best films from around the world accessible to local audience at affordable rates, KSFDC chairman Shaji N. Karun said. In the first stage, the KSFDC will conduct screenings at Kalabhavan, its theatre at Vazhuthacaud, over a period of three months.

Screenings on Sundays

Screenings will include Shoplifters by Hirokazu Kore-Eda (Japan), The Guilty by Gustave Moller (Denmark), Loveless by Andrey Zvyagintsev (Russia), Yommeddine by A.B. Shawky (Egypt), and many other films screened at Cannes, Berlinale, and Sundance film festivals.

The screenings will be at 10.30 a.m. on Sundays.

Those who are interested should email to [email protected] with their name, date of birth, address, and phone number to register. The project will be implemented on the basis of the response from film lovers, Mr. Karun said.

If the response is found to be sufficient, the KSFDC would inform members. They would then be required to pay ₹900 as fee for three months, he said.
