JEE Main, NEET 2020 Exam Date LIVE Updates: The Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will today go live for the second time this month. The live interaction is scheduled to start at noon. It is anticipated that the HRD minister will talk about the exam dates for the national level competitive exams – JEE Main and NEET.

Earlier, the minister had announced that these exams will be held in May-end, however, with lockdown being extended till May 17, the exams are expected to be postponed further. Over 9 lakh students have registered to appear for JEE Main and over 15.93 lakh have applied for NEET 2020, as per the National Testing Agency (NTA) – the exam conducting body.

He is also likely to deliberate on whether or not the syllabus for the upcoming academic session will be reduced. This was among one of the suggestions raised by the Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia in the meeting of state education ministers with the Union HRD minister.

Much before the interaction, queries had started flowing in for the HRD Minister over Twitter and Facebook. Apart from the date of the entrance exams, students also asked about college-level annual and semester exams, inaccessibility of online classes, promoting class 10 and class 12 students among others.

Answering queries raised in previous live, the HRD Minister had informed that students from classes 1 to 8 will be promoted to the next classes across India without exams. Several states had already made that announcement. He reiterated the exams for major subjects which are important for the college admission process will be held only.

The dates of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 10, 12 examinations will not release today by the HRD Minister. Refuting the media reports that the Human Resource and Development (MHRD) Minister will announce the dates of CBSE with JEE Main, NEET, board controller Sanyam Bharadwaj said, “Till now, the decision has not been taken to announce the board examination dates tomorrow.”

In an interview with The Indian Express, HRD Minister said it is likely that JEE-Main will be conducted in June. The Ministry is consulting stakeholders like the boards of examinations, IITs, and other agencies involved in logistical operations of JEE and NEET before announcing the next dates. To assess the possibility of conduction of online exams for higher education, the HRD ministry has constituted a task force under UGC. We will issue guidelines based on the report.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) released an indicative academic calendar last month according to which for higher education institutions Wednesday that suggested classes for first-year students can start by September 1 and for intermediate year students on August 1. It also indicated that the admission process for fresh batches of students should be conducted in August.

Every year, JEE Main is held in April and NEET on the first Sunday of May.  However, the exams were postponed due to nationwide lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19. The HRD Ministry earlier said the exams will be held in May-end.
