Urmila Matondkar on Kangana Ranaut’s ‘soft porn star’ remark: Will those who opposed Shiv Sena’s slur against her, condemn this too?

Kangana Ranaut recently grabbed headlines and the audience’s wrath when she referred to actress Urmila Matondkar as a soft porn star in her interview. For those who are new here, it so happened that Kangana has been on a drug expose in Bollywood. The actress, in one of her earlier interviews, had claimed that about 99 per cent of the Bollywood industry was into drugs. A lot of people have reacted to her claims. Urmila Matondkar had addressed Kangana Ranaut’s claims and even her remark on feeling unsafe in Mumbai in an interview. She had called out the actress asking her to expose the drug peddling that happens in her hometown, Himachal Pradesh. It is then that the Queen actress had taken a jibe at Urmila’s career calling her a ‘soft porn star’.

Urmila Matondkar reacted to the same asking whether those who opposed Shiv Sena’s slur against the actress condemn this too? Urmila also noted that the reporter had a gleeful look and a smile on her face when Kangana made the remark. The actress spoke about how she had always praised Kangana in all of her interviews, saying, “In all my interviews, I have complimented her on the actor she has been, a wonderful actor, a woman who has come from a small town. I have only complimented her and acknowledged all her achievements.”

“It just goes to show where we stand, and that is precisely what I have been trying to say, that if you have a viewpoint, by all means you have a right to express it. But it just that the way you express it and how you express it does matter,” the Rangeela actress added in her interview with Barkha Dutt. Urmila also mentioned the slur that Shiv Sena had used for Kangana and how appalled she was on hearing the same. “Today, as I am spoken about like this by another woman, which level should that be going to? It really fails me,” she added asking whether people would oppose this too as they opposed Shiv Sena’s slur against Kangana.

Urmila was ‘deeply touched’ by the response of her fellow workers in the industry. “They are aghast and completely in shock as to what has happened,” she said. “It is very disheartening to see someone talking not only about little old me, but also Jaya ji, who has been an MP for so many years, and has raised her voice or so many issues. Someone like her being spoken to like that, her career, her children…” Urmila continued while adding that she would like people to focus on the growing COVID-19 cases in the country. “That’s what I was I was talking about, I had no interest in making comments about Kangana,” she said.
