#JusticeForDisha: Arjun Reddy Director Receives Hatred

The debate on Arjun Reddy/Kabir Singh for glorifying anger issues, misogyny, ego and violence is a never-ending issue as there is umpteenth number of opinions on the film. The film’s director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has received flak as well for showing abusive love story while portraying toxic masculinity. The criticism did not stop there. Sandeep is still receiving satires and reproval for raising his voice on ongoing events.

Hyderabad’s Disha rape and murder case have been spoken by a lot of bigwigs and so did Arjun Reddy filmmaker. He wrote on twitter – “FEAR is the only factor which can change things radically in society and FEAR should be the new rule. The brutal sentence will set an example. Now every girl in the country needs a firm guarantee. I request @warangalpolice to come into action.”.

Though his intention was good in expressing his anguish, he received endless rounds of trolls and memes from netizens and also from famous personalities like singer Sona Mohapatra and director Vikramaditya Motwane. Replying to Sandeep’s tweet, Motwane asked, “Will that FEAR stop them from slapping her?” satirically.

While Sona Mohapatra bashed Vanga saying, “Would also, help if you did your job better. Stop making films where you glorify sexist behaviour, misogyny & violence against women. Films like #KabirSingh aka #ArjunReddy where you ride on male toxicity for commercial gain. Maybe use your ‘virtue signalling’ in your work?”.

As we know, the recent Parvathy Thiruvothu has also slammed the director for showing misogyny and patriarchal mindset in a heroic way. While it’s a freedom of speech to express Sandeep Vanga’s opinion on the recent rape case, a few netizens also supported the director’s point of view saying that he had enough criticism and hatred so far.
