Director Nandini Reddy talks about working with Samantha and Lakshmi

“If not for Samantha, I don’t think anyone could have done justice to the such a complex role,” says director Nandini Reddy talking about Samantha’s role in her upcoming movie Oh! Baby. “It was Sam who suggested my name for the project and got me on board for this movie. When I read the script I knew this was a story that I wanted to be a part of,” she says.

The duo has previously worked together in a romantic comedy Jabardasth that released in 2013. “ Since I have worked with her and know her capabilities, I can with an assurance that she is the best choice for this role. The script demands portrayal of complex emotions, that Samantha enacted with such ease. This is what makes her one of the most sought-after actors in the industry,” she says.

Currently touring the Telugu states for the promotions the cast and crew of Oh! Baby visited Raghu Engineering College and Dr Lankapalli Bullayya College in the city.

Oh! baby is the remake of Korean drama Miss Granny in which the 70-year-old protagonist gets to relive her youth days by transforming into a 20-year-old girl. Veteran actress Lakshmi essays the role of the 70-year-old granny while Samathan plays the young girl. The Korean drama which was a massive success has been remade in over five languages including Japanese and Thai.

“Working with the cast and crew of this movie was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I was surrounded by veterans like Lakshmi, Rajendra Prasad and Rao Ramesh. With them around, every day was a learning experience for me. I would watch in awe as they would bring alive the script that demanded portrayal of complex emotions with such ease and precision” she says. Nandini has worked with Lakshmi earlier in Murari as an assistant director.

Though Oh! Baby is spearheaded by two women, Nandini says that she never looked at it as a women-centric movie. “It has comedy and emotions that will appeal to people of all genders and across all age groups,” she says.

The movie that released this Friday, has been in news for being the first Telugu movie with a woman in the lead to get the 8 am slot in Chennai.
