Eastenders star Steve McFadden has been accused of breaking a 20mph speed limit in court whilst riding on his scooter last year.
The 62 year old — who plays character Phil Mitchell on the soap — was allegedly pulled over on 7 October for speeding through traffic at 35mph on his Vespa scooter in Hampstead, North London and now faces a charge.
Bromley Magistrates' Court was told of how Steve was stopped by officer Jonathan Steinhof after he was caught on a mobile speed gun at the time breaking the driving limit, the Evening Standard reports.
“I was stationary on Fitzjohns Avenue at the junction with Nutley Terrace when I saw a blue Piaggio Vespa travelling along”, PC Steinhof told the court. “The vehicle was overtaking other vehicles that appeared to be doing the speed limit.
“There is a video evidence relating to this incident.”
Steve was reportedly not required to attend court, and a magistrate will decide his punishment in the meantime.
OK! online has contacted Steve's representatives for comment.
Steve has shown himself to be a big fan of his scooter after being spotted driving it around Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire — the location where EastEnders is filmed — on several occasions.
In 2017, the Eastenders icon was also seen on his beloved ride picking up his dinner of fish and chips at his local shop.
Steve had opted for safety wear at the time as he wore a helmet and a Hi-Vis jacket whilst collecting his food order before riding off.
The actor’s reported possible driving charge comes after fellow Eastenders star Jamie Borthwick — who plays Jay Brown on the soap — was relieved of a lengthy driving ban.
The 27 year old actor had originally been given a six-month ban after he was caught speeding at 52mph in a 30mph zone in Romford in May last year, however it was reduced to two months following his appeal earlier this month.
“The circumstances of this offence are the road is a dual carriageway which isn't signposted at 30mph limit, but of course, the presence of street lights indicates that," Jamie’s lawyer Alex Owen said in court.
"He was unaware of that at the time, he was wrongly under the impression it was a 50mph limit. It took place in the mid afternoon, and it was relatively quiet at the time. No danger was caused.”
