Jackie Kennedy smokes a cigarette in rare snapshots from new book

Jacqueline Kennedy smokes a cigarette in rare image from new book of Hollywood portraits that also includes an unrecognizable Priscilla Presley and a topless Meg Tilly

A new book of stunning portraits of celebrities has just been released.

Icons by oscar! is an incredible collection of pictures from well-known photographer Oscar Abolafia, which was overseen by Lannoo Publishers.

The images were taken many decades ago in a different era, before Photo Shopping and retouch madness. In many cases, the shots are candid with little preparation capturing the true essence of a star at ease.

Some of the brighter names in the 248 page book are Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Farrah Fawcett, Priscilla Presley, Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor.

Puffing away: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is seen smoking a cigarette in a photo by Oscar Abolafia for his new book Icons By oscar! out now

Jacqueline Kennedy was one of the most private celebrities of her time. But there was enormous intrigue about the woman who was married to President John F Kennedy (from 1953 until 1963) then Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis (from 1968 until 1975).

In three new images from the book, Jackie looks at ease.

In one photo she is seen smoking a cigarette with the help of an elegant white and gold holder.

She is beautifully made up with pink lipstick and her hair coiffed into a 1960s style. And she has on her signature pearl necklace.

Yacht life: Another image even better captures the glamour of her life. Jackie is seen in a tie-dye shirt with oversized sunglasses on and her hair up with her tanned legs on display

The Vassar College graduate from South Hampton New York also modeled a sleeveless off-white mock neck top that showed off her summer tan.

Sharp dresser: A third image sees the star in a crisp white suit over a black top as she is headed out for a night of fun

Another image even better captures the glamour of her life. Jackie is seen in a tie-dye shirt with oversized sunglasses on and her hair up with her tanned legs on display.

The book editor is seen descending the wood stairs of a mega yacht.

And making her look very VIP, she has two attendants waiting for her; one inside a speedboat and another outside.

Kennedy doesn’t look their way.

A third image sees the former photographer in a crisp white suit over a black top as she is headed out for a night of fun, most likely in New York City.

The mother of two held onto a clutch purse while wearing a gold wedding band on her ring finger.

The former First Lady of the United States had on large pearly earrings which was the chic accessory of that era.

Sinatra became close to Oscar over the years.

One of the images the shutterbug chose was of the My Way singer at a boxing match. He was in a suit and tie as he held on to a camera.

The Ocean’s 11 actor looked to be in great spirits as he said hello to a friend.

Bare fact: A more recent image is of actress Meg Tilly, best known for her roles in 1983’s The Big Chill and 1985’s Agnes Of God. She also was in Psycho II (1983) and The Two Jakes (1990).

The sister of Jennifer Tilly is sitting in nature wearing nothing but yellow bikini bottoms as she covers her chest with her arms.

Her gaze is Mona Lisa-esque as she wears dewy makeup and her raven hair down.

Amazing: One of the most inviting images was of Priscilla Presley, who was once wed to Elvis Presley. She is sitting alone in a booth with a glass of water. She looks much like her daughter Lisa Marie Presley

Super look: Margot Kidder, best known for playing Lois Lane in Superman, wore a bathing suit and wedge heels with a peep toe as she posed on big rocks by the water

At ease: There is also a playful image of model Twiggy in a white dress with floral accents as she tries to balance a flower on her top lip

Margot Kidder, best known for playing Lois Lane in Superman, wore a bathing suit and wedge heels with a peep toe as she posed on big rocks by the water.

She has more than 130 movie credits to her name, including Black Christmas, The Great Waldo Pepper and The Amityville Horror.

She died in May 2018 by suicide.

There is also a playful image of model Twiggy in a white dress with floral accents as she tries to balance a flower on her top lip. She was known for being slender with a boyish haircut.

The legend: Taylor, the screen legend who was in Cleopatra and Butterfield 8, looked majestic with her blue/purple eyes staring out from beneath a grey fur cap. She was heavily made up with perfectly arched brows and coral colored lipgloss. Her dress was white with a pink and blue pin on the side. At the time she was on top of her game in Hollywood and most likely on her fourth or fifth marriage.

A bombshell if there ever was one: Ann-Margret of Viva Las Vegas fame with Elvis is seen here on break, showing off her glorious dancer’s legs

Smokers: Faye Dunaway was a knockout even when looking dismayed, left, and Jack Nicholson was seen with a cigar in his mouth as he modeled a suit and tie, right
