Love Island’s Amy Hart’s dad ‘booted off’ BBC radio show over offensive jibe

Love Island newbie Amy Hart's dad was reportedly booted off the airwaves of his BBC radio show after making an offensive comment to a listener.

Ian Hart is said to have come under fire after branding a caller a "window licker" during a football phone-in on his radio show.

The 54-year-old and his colleague Andrew Hawes were taken off the airwaves after making the comment, The Sun reports.

They say the broadcaster was forced to take action against Ian in 2008 when he told a football fan to "go and lick a window" during a row over Mickey Adams, the manager of Brighton and Hove Albion.

Hawes then followed up his comment by telling "any window lickers out there" to call into the show.

The comments were met with a lot of backlash from disabled charities, including Mencap, who said they were "appalled such offensive language" was still being used.

Ian apologised "unreservedly" for his comments, saying: "In that split second I didn't realise the severity of what I was saying.

"I now know it was grossly inappropriate."

The BBC also apologised at the time, saying: "The BBC takes this kind of issue extremely seriously and action is being taken."

Ian was suspended for over a month by BBC Southern Counties, where he had been working for over a decade.

He returned to the airwaves very briefly, but a source tells the site he "quietly disappeared" after his comeback, when he decided to leave the show and go into charity fundraising instead.

Air hostess Amy, 26, has been revealed as one of the new stars heading into the ITV2 dating show.

The BBC did not want to comment when contacted by the Mirror Online.
