Fall in number of Class 1 students

Strength has decreased by 7,737 across govt., aided, and unaided schools

There has been a fall in the number of students in Class 1 in schools in the State this year. The drop has been registered across government, aided, and unaided schools.

The first two years since the launch of the Public Education Rejuvenation Mission had seen an increase in student strength in Class 1 in government and aided schools, but that has changed this year.

The number of students in Class 1 has fallen by 7,737 this year.

While the number of government school students has reduced by 59, it is 3,221 in the case of aided schools, and 4,457 for unaided schools, data collected through the Sampoorna software and available on the website reveal.

Govt. claim

The government was yet to release the details of the sixth-day headcount this year. It had earlier said that a preliminary analysis showed that 1.63 lakh students had joined government and aided schools this year, while the unaided sector had lost students.

The total number of students who had taken admission to Class 1 last year was 3,24,533, but this dipped to 3,16,796 this year.

There has been an increase in the number of students in Classes 2, 5 and 8, as well as the total number of students in government and aided schools.

The total number of students in Class 10 has dipped, with numbers falling in government, aided, and unaided schools. The total number of students in Classes 1 to 10 has gone up by 13,577 from last year.

Public sector

The increase in government schools alone has been 23,094.

The number in aided schools went up by 4,587, while it fell in unaided schools by 14,104.

The number of students who reached Class 2 this year exceeds the number of students who took admission to class 1 last year in both government and aided schools, by 5,698 and 7,627 students, respectively.

However, in the case of unaided schools, it fell by 1,266.
