A retired Inspector of Police was arrested for being in possession of and selling Indian-made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) bottles procured from Puducherry, at his house under Tallakulam police station limits on Friday.
Based on a tip-off, police raided the house of the retired Inspector, who had also served in Madurai City police, in the morning and found 200 full bottles there.
The Inspector, who is a regular drinker himself, used to sell the bottles to people in his known circle. He was produced before a magistrate court which granted him bail.
He has been booked under the provisions of the Prohibition Act.
A police source said that the retired Inspector had taken to drinking and also started to sell liquor bottles. He had bought the bottles at Karaikkal and brought them here in a hired vehicle.
